May 2009
From Chris Maurizio...

Steve Oliver is an amazing person.  His dedication to the LGRA and the Liberty Stampede cannot go unnoticed. It is with great sadness that I have to announce his decision to resign as Vice President of the LGRA. This decision was not an easy one but due to personal circumstances beyond his control it was his only choice. Steve will continue to support the LGRA and Liberty Stampede and we expect to see his smiling face at this years rodeo and upcoming events. The LGRA Board of Directors wants to thank Steve for everything he's done and wish him the best.

Jeff Bolognese, President of LGRA, requested to take a short leave of absence due to personal circumstances. After looking into it the board found nothing that would not allow any board member to take a leave of absence. With that, at a special meeting the board unanimously approved Jeff's request. During Jeff's absence Chris Maurizio will be acting President and Michael Flynn will becoming the Recording Secretary. Also James Erhart will become the Assistant Rodeo Director nd taking charge.  It's that kind of dedication that makes us as strong as we are.

Any and all questions, comments, etc regarding Steve, Jeff, or the management of the LGRA should be directed to myself at cmaurizio@libertygra.org. Our board is strong, dedicated, and determined and I expect that business will run as smoothly as it usually does.

Regards
Chris Maurizio

Chris's Corner

Anybody who watched the 2009 CMA Awards had to be blown away by some of the spectacular performances.  To me the most unbelievable performance goes to Carrie Underwood.  Not only did she (once again) do an outstanding job performing country legend’s Randy Travis’ “I Told You So” but the dress she was wearing was a drag queens wildest dream!  She looked absolutely beautiful.  Speaking of Carrie she also won the CMA “Entertainer of the Year”!  The show was hosted by Reba McEntire.  As always she was beautiful and some of the zingers she came out with were ROFL funny.  Here are a couple of her hilarious quotes:"Seems like everyone wants to cut a country album nowadays. Even Michael Phelps and Willie Nelson are teaming up to do an album. They're covering the Doobie Brothers!""Our first nominee is George Strait. George has sold over 62 million albums, which puts him in the same class as Elton John. That's the first time I've ever said straight and Elton John in the same sentence."Here are the categories with the winners:
  • Entertainer of the Year – Carrie Underwood·         Album of the Year – Taylor Swift / Fearless Lyrics·         Single Record of the Year – Trace Adkins / You’re Gonna Miss This Lyrics·         Song of the Year – Jamey Johnson / In Color Lyrics·         Top Female Vocalist – Carrie Underwood·         Top Male Vocalist – Brad Paisley·         Top Vocal Duo – Sugarland·         Top Vocal Group – Rascal Flatts·         Video of the Year – Brad Paisley / Waitin’ On A Woman·         Vocal Event of the Year – Brad Paisley Duet With Keith Urban / Start A Band
  • Important Announcement from our Bylaws Committee

We have postponned our Bylaws meeting to a future date so that we can focus on the Liberty Stampede. Please stay tunned for more information.

"The morals of the Cowboy are steadfast. He takes on and accomplishes any job given to him, no matter how hard or dangerous this job maybe. He rides and competes for pride, not for the actual belt buckle or title. A Cowboy stands for all that is pure and true."

We need you!!!!

Liberty Stampede 2009 is approaching very fast.  We will need a multitude of volunteers to make this event a success.  Last year our volunteers were dedicated and hard working.  I was amazed at the amount of people from all over the country and Canada that stepped up to help out.  This year I'm hoping for the same.  Our volunteer signup page is open and ready at http://www.libertygra.org/html/volunteer/signup.php -  we have various types of volunteer positions ranging from hotel help all the way to arena crew.  If you think you have what it takes to make this year's Liberty Stampede a success then go to the website and sign on up!Best regards,
Chris Maurizio, Volunteer Coordinator

More about The Woods Campground and a Country Cruise in 2010

Howdy everybody. Just wanted to let you know that "The Woods" campground is having their Country Weekend on May 29 - 31. They have invited the LGRA to be part of their festivities. A large group of us have reserved 5 cabins and we intend to have an LGRA Country Hoedown in our area. We are still working with the management of "The Woods" to try to get as much fun and entertainment as possible - you may even see some of your LGRA board members performing in dresses, now wouldn't that be a hoot. So come join us at "The Woods" for Country Weekend.

We also wanted to mention that there is a gay country cruise scheduled for April of 2010. Wouldn't it be fun if a group of our members could invade the waters of off Florida together and then end up at the FGRA rodeo the weekend after the cruise?  Keep your eyes open for more information.
